About

LEX NON SCRIPTA is a multi-media artist, curator, educator, and activist from the shores of the San Francisco Bay, with a creative practice informed by social justice/responsibility, transgressive and liberatory politics, and the spirit of collaboration. They are currently based in Nonotuck & Pocumtuc lands/Western Massachusetts.

In addition to exhibiting their work internationally, Lex co-founded Aorta Magazine: by/for/about women & queers in the arts and Magic Makers: a queer art, craft & healing fair and workshop series dedicated to creating a thriving micro-economy for radically politicized queer artists in the Bay Area. As a curator and organizer, Lex has presented numerous collaboratively-produced and community-focused exhibitions and showcases, including the Mission Radical Queer History walking tour (2010), Bring Your Own Queer/BYOQ: a free art & music festival in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park (2009-10), Dirtstar 2011 in conjunction with the National Queer Arts Festival and Luggage Store Gallery/Tenderloin National Forest, and Best Revenge, a multi-venue, roving spectacular on queer community resistance for the NQAF 2012. In 2013-14, Lex organized Passage & Place: an exhibition and curated a printed anthology of incarcerated and free-world artists and writers addressing movement, displacement, home, and community for NQAF 2014. Lex was a collaborator in Pro Arts’ Community Advocacy Alliance in 2012-13, co-organizer for the Transformative Arts Practice Space at the 2013-14 Allied Media Conference (Detroit), a fellow in the 2012 cohort of the Emerging Arts Professionals fellowship program, a participant in Yerba Buena Center for the Arts 2013-14 Creative Ecosystem/Body Politic Think Tank, and artist in residence with YBCA’s YAAW in 2015.
