Yes. Please.

On my birthday a few years ago, a gaggle of friends took me to my favorite watering hole/secret backyard in SF: the Wild Side West, opened in and owned by lesbians since 1962. There was a semi truck sized dumpster out front, filled to the brim with debris. And calling my name.

After drinks, as we were leaving, a few of us hauled ourselves over the side and into the dumpster to discover a mix of trash and treasure. Like, real live treasure. Old chairs, paintings, an entire jukebox and its entire record collection strewn amongst the debris, bar paraphernalia, and so much more.

BEST REVENGE call for artists and proposals

OPEN CALL

Throughout queer history and our current political landscape, there are many milestones to celebrate. Certainly, the Defense of Marriage Act and the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” are significant struggles fought with the intention of bringing equality to marginalized LGBTQ people. However, embedded within the concept of milestones is a traditional linear model of success that oftentimes alienates queers whose lives, identities and desires exist outside the dominate narrative of equality and progress.

Attempts to assimilate into this dominant society will continue to distract and dissuade the queer community from celebrating itself as a distinctly different, thriving micro-society with a network of values, relationships and political and social views. Join us for the Artists Bloc day at Occupy San Francisco for

Freakshow

Some time ago, my fantastically talented friend Larisa Escobedo asked me to participate in this queer centered show in Mexico City. It opens June 23rd. Of course I was planning on being in San Francisco at this time, but if any sugar parents happen to swing through the website and feel inclined to gift me a plane ticket, I’ll gladly accept. Just sayin.

Take Root.

In the fall of 2010, I had the good fortune to be invited to participate in the organizing of DirtStar 2011, in conjunction with the National Queer Arts Festival. Even better, we were offered a two month residency at the Tenderloin National Forest/Luggage Store Gallery Annex, which is both affording us the opportunity to incorporate an outstanding visual arts show and performance night alongside freeform programming and workshops….with access to the gardens at Tenderloin National Forest. It couldn’t be a better fit!

With an emphasis on cultivating sustainability and fostering DIY stewardship within the queer community,
